Alleged Armed Robbers Attacked By Vigilante Mob

Three armed robbers were battered bloody by members of the public in Lagos today.
An armed mobbed swarmed over the alleged thieves at Fadeyi bus stop in Lagos state.
The angry vigilantes then proceeded to attack the unfortunate hoodlums with everything they could muster to hand, hitting and tearing at the alleged criminals.
As you can see from the pictures below, the mob attack victims were left sprawled on the kerbside covered in blood, with at least one of the young men passed out, probably from going into shock and blood loss.
His companion can also be seen to have suffered a messy wound to his left eye, it is not clear whether he has lost his sight.
They were accused by the vigilante mob of attacking and robbing a young woman, however it is currently unknown whether the three alleged robbers have been charged with any criminal offences by the police.
Vigilante attacks are common in Nigeria, but it is always recommended that citizens follow the law and report miscreants and hoodlums to the police, instead of taking bloody justice into their own hands.

Naira Falls To Record Low Of N300 To USD1

The Nigerian Naira has plummeted to a three-and-a-half low against the US Dollar, to N300 – $1 on the parallel market.
The record slump in value has been attributed to the Nigerian Central Bank’s move to curb the supply of dollars in the country.
Governor of the NCB Godwin Emefiele said foreign reserves stood at around $28 billion compared with $37 billion in June 2014, and that the bureaux de change operators were depleting them at a rate of $28.4 million per week.
“This is a huge hemorrhage on our scarce foreign exchange reserves, and cannot continue,” Emefiele told a news conference in the capital Abuja.
The price of crude oil also recently dropped briefly below the widely watched $30-per-barrel level on Tuesday, extending a selloff that has sliced almost 20% off prices this year amid deepening concerns about fragile Chinese demand and the absence of output restraint.
Ongoing tension between two of the world’s biggest oil suppliers Iran and Saudi Arabia is also likely to mean that the market will remain volatile, which will inevitably lead to a weakened Naira as crude oil production accounts for 78% of Nigeria’s economy.

The Nigerian military has insisted the Boko Haram insurgency has been decimated in the country as members of the group can no longer launch attacks.
President Muhammadu Buhari promised last year that the insurgency will be completely wiped out. Although there have been pockets of attacks, the military insists Boko Haram cannot cause mayhem.
Daily Post reports that General Gabriel Olonisakin, the chief of defence staff said on Tuesday, January 12 that “Boko Haram has been degraded and they are not fit any longer to carry out coordinated attacks but off course suicide bombing is an issue we are still battling with.”
He assured the people that the military would take the issue of suicide bombing seriously and end the activities in the country.

How Lagos Can Generate Tax - Lawmaker

Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts for Local Government, Bisi Yusuf, in this interview with Naij.com, speaks on how Lagos state has fared with its budget as well as how to shore up the revenue generation capacity of the state.
Let us know your plans for the Local Government Councils in Lagos as Chairman of the House Committee on Public Account for Local Governments.
What we are suggesting is that the local councils should not sit on the fence and that they must think outside the box. They should not depend solely on federal allocations, which is not stable. They should go all out to generate revenues, and block all the loopholes. Once they do this, it would be better and whatever they get from the federal government would just be an addition. The LSHA has told them about preparing budgets and they would certainly work based on the acumen of the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. Again, their capital projects must be higher than the recurrent like what is happening at the state level, where capital expenditure is more than recurrent expenditure. The local councils should not spend all their monies on overhead costs.
