Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, has come in for harsh criticism following his New Year prophecy of an assassination attempt on President Muhammadu Buhari by corrupt politicians

Describing Mbaka as a confused sorcerer, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, the national coordinator of the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) said he needed prayers to rediscover his priestly mandate.

Speaking to Daily Post, Onwubiko stated that Father Mbaka’s actions were disgraceful, saying: “I’m ashamed of being a Roman Catholic if this is the quality of priest the Church can boast of, made up of power hungry sycophants who behave like tyrants.”
Onwubiko was reacting to a statement credited to Mbaka’s media aide, Barr. Maximus Ugwuoke, which called on security agents to see those who criticized the recent prophecy of its spiritual leader as prime suspects.
Onwubiko said: “Our attention in the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has been called to an alleged reaction to our criticism of Ejike Mbaka’s prophesy concerning the life of Mr President and all we can say is that we are convinced that Fr Mbaka has become a confused sorcerer who should be prayed for to rediscover his priestly calling.
“Our reaction to his so called prophesy was done in exercise of our freedom of expression and we are not afraid of his so called reaction advising the security officials to seek our view because our view has been clearly expressed and we are indeed ready to send our letter to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria to demand that Mbaka be called to order.”
According to him, if the bishops cannot call Mbaka to order, the human rights group will proceed with a petition to the Vatican.
Onwubiko advised Mbaka to leave politics for politicians and stick to his priestly duties.
In his 2016 New Year message, on Friday, January 1, Mbaka raised the alarm over plans to kill Buhari because of the president’s stance on corruption.
In a swift reaction, HURIWA tagged Mbaka’s prophesy as “sensationalism”, “rumour peddling” and “delusional fantasy,” threatening to refer the prophet to Pope Francis if the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria failed to sanction him and stop him actively associating with politicians.
Meanwhile, in a recent development President Buhari commended Mbaka for his exemplary courage and pointed out the important role he played for the sake of the country.
