Speaking to reporters after the 2015 Glo-CAF awards in Abuja, sports minister Solomon Dalung said the federal government has a comprehensive package for the successful teams led by Coach Emmanuel Amuneke and Samson Siasia.
The minister however stopped short of naming what reward packages are available to the teams and their coaches.
The teams will be rewarded alongside other athletes who made in country proud in other sports.
Dalung told reporters: “The 21th of January 2016 has been approved by president (Muhammadu) Buhari as the day for the reward for those who have made us (Nigeria) proud,” Dalung told media.
“Indeed the Federal government has approved a comprehensive package for all athletes and is not limited to football but even scrabble, basketball and others that have made the country proud.
“The package is subject to the recommendation of Mr President. Since it is a package, it cannot be unveiled until that day.”
Amuneke led the Golden Eaglets to success at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile while Siasia Nigeria’s maiden African U23 Championship title hence qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
