In the statement according to the News Agency of Nigeria, the command said that the new police boss in the state, Ghazzali Mohammed, had already begun his official duty today.
According to the statement which was signed by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Othman Abubakar, in Yola, the command further disclosed that Mohammed replaced Gabriel Adaji.
It read that the new police commissioner, until his appointment, was in charge of election planning and monitoring at the police force headquarters in Abuja.
The statement read in part: “The new commissioner solicits the cooperation of the general public and calls on them to be law abiding and confident in the security apparatus of the state in the course of his administration.
“He also wishes members of the public a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.”
In a recent development, about nine hundred and eighty six senior police officers were on Tuesday, December 22, promoted by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The approval for the promotion of these senior officers were made known at the commission’s fourteenth plenary meeting held in Abuja.
Among those promoted include: one commissioner of police, Shuaiba Gambo promoted to the rank of assistant inspector general of police, five deputy commissioners of police – Jonah Jackson Mava, Olusola David, Titus Lamorde, Chika Maidama and Abdullahi Chafe Ibrahim – were elevated to commissioners of police, 16 assistant commissioners of police to deputy commissioners of police and 21 chief superintendents of police to assistant commissioners of police.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives committee on National Security and Intelligence has ordered the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, to investigate the Shiites/Army clash and provide the House with a report to that effect in three weeks.
