Brigadier General (rtd) Mansur Dan-Ali, the minister of Defencehas said the federal government would introduce insurance package for soldiers fighting insurgency in the Northeast.

He said: “Normally we have package for the families of the fallen heroes but recently we are introducing the death insurance which has not been done before.
“It is an additional package by President Muhammadu Buhari to motivate our gallant armed forces and to take care of the families of the fallen heroes.”
Dan-Ali however urged Nigerians to pray fervently for soldiers to ensure the fight against Boko Haram terrorists is totally won. According to him, the military was getting it right in the on-going fight against insurgency, stating that Boko Haram would soon be a thing of the past in the country.
“ I believe Nigerians are fully aware of what the military has done so far and with their prayers everything will come to an end very soon.”
On his part, Senate president Bukola Saraki, said that the Jum’at prayer was part of recognition of the sacrifice made by men and women who laid down their lives to defend the country.
“We must continue to do this not only to motivate their families that are left behind but to also encourage our men that are presently fighting insurgency,” Saraki said.
He called on all Nigerians to always remember the fallen heroes in their daily prayers and also pray for the unity and development of the country.
During the course of the week, the Nigerian army appointed a new commander to head the counter insurgency operation against Boko Haram.
The outgoing Theater Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, a major general Yushau Abubakar, named Hassan Umaru as his successor on Monday, January 4. Abubakar, is the current Chief of  Training and Operation of the Nigerian Army Headquarters.
As part of efforts towards fighting the current security challenge in Nigeria, the United States, yesterday, January 7, donated $11 million mine-resistant and armor-protected vehicles to the Nigerian army.
But reports credited to The Nation have it that about 50 percent of the vehicles sent in by the United States government to fight insurgency in Nigeria are not working.
