Olamide and Donjazzy |
The 2015 edition of the award which took place January 1, 2016 have thrown up several controversies including the spat between producer, Donjazzy and rapper Olamide following the emergence of Reekado Banks as winner of the competitive Next Rated category ahead of fans favorite, Lil Kesh.
In a statement issued by the organizers, it claimed “Voting, Year In Review and Definitions Of Each Category, are generally taken for granted by many artists.”
It also condemned the behavior of Olamide at the venue of the event and promised to address the issue at a later date.
“While it is not out of place for an artiste or a party to vent their disapproval, we strongly condemn all kinds of improper conduct and the use of profanity on live television. In the same manner, we condemn provocative comments. In all, we see no use or reason for a disgruntled artiste or party to destroy valuable properties put in place to give them extra comfort before they perform or come on stage. This is totally unacceptable and will be addressed,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the two label owners jointly tendered the apology via Instagram.
